Home care

Personal care and practical support to help you continue living in your own home.

Support shaped around your day

Depending on assessed needs and the agreed care package, home care can include help with washing and dressing, meals, daily routines, companionship and practical tasks. Ask the team about respite support or support following a hospital stay.

We discuss your preferences, the support required and whether the service can meet your needs before arrangements are agreed.

Questions about home care

How do I arrange home care?

Call the Matlock or Colchester team to discuss the support you need and your location. An assessment helps establish suitability, preferences, visit arrangements and costs before a start date is agreed.

Can I ask about respite or support after a hospital stay?

Yes. Tell the team what support is needed and when. Suitability, capacity and any professional handover must be agreed before support starts.

Will I be involved in decisions about my care?

Your preferences, routines and goals should shape the assessment and agreed care plan. You can involve a family member or advocate and raise concerns with the team.

How much does home care cost?

Costs depend on assessed needs, visit arrangements and the support agreed. Ask the team for an individual quotation and discuss any proposed funding arrangements before committing.

What if my needs change or I have a concern?

Contact the team to request a review or discuss a concern. For a complaint, ask for the complaints procedure and the relevant Registered Manager; contact details are on the Contact page.

Your care, your choices

Your routines, beliefs, relationships and goals matter. An assessment should consider the support you need and what you want to keep doing for yourself. Ask to be involved in the plan and in reviews when your needs or preferences change.

You can ask questions, discuss alternatives and tell the team if you do not agree with proposed support. Adults should be supported to make their own decisions. If there is a concern about someone’s ability to make a particular decision, ask the manager how this will be assessed and who has lawful authority to be involved. A relative does not automatically have authority to decide for an adult.

You can involve someone you trust, including a family member or advocate where appropriate. Your privacy and choices about sharing information should be respected. Permission to receive care is separate from permission to publish your photograph, video or story.

Information in a way that works for you

Tell the team what makes information easier to understand and how you prefer to communicate. You can ask about plain language, large print, Easy Read, an interpreter, communication aids or support from an advocate. The team should discuss your needs and explain the arrangements available; a family member should not automatically be treated as your interpreter.

For a communication-support request, call 01629 380879 for Matlock or 01206 890904 for Colchester. Tell us the format or contact method that helps you. You can also share feedback or make a complaint in a way that works for you.
