Support for children, young people and adults in their own homes and local communities across Essex.
Everyday life, shaped around the person
Community support helps people take part in activities, develop practical skills and maintain daily routines. Our service information covers people with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and additional support needs. Every enquiry is assessed individually to establish whether the service can meet the person’s needs safely.

What support can include
- Support to access local activities, leisure facilities, clubs and community opportunities.
- Help to develop daily living skills, communication and greater independence.
- Support with routines, meals and healthcare appointments, where agreed in the support plan.
- Personal care or medication support where assessed, agreed and within the relevant service’s scope.
- Respite for family carers through an individually agreed support package.
The activities, support arrangements and timing depend on assessed needs, suitability, funding and availability. Please discuss any specialist requirements with the team before making assumptions about what can be provided.
Starting support
Start with a brief conversation about the type of support and the area where it is needed. The team will explain the assessment process, discuss the person’s preferences and goals, and confirm the information needed for a detailed referral.
Before support begins, the care or support plan, risk assessments, funding and practical arrangements need to be agreed. Plans are reviewed as the person’s needs and circumstances change. The person, their family or advocate and relevant professionals can be involved as appropriate.
For families and professionals
We welcome initial enquiries from individuals and families, social workers, local authorities, health commissioners, case managers and education professionals. Current capacity and suitability must be confirmed by the team; an enquiry does not guarantee a start date or acceptance of a referral.
For Essex community support enquiries, telephone 01206 890904 or email info@caregiversltd.co.uk. Share only your contact details, the broad location and the service you are asking about initially. Do not send care records, diagnoses or safeguarding information until an appropriate secure route has been agreed.
Understanding regulation
Community support is distinct from residential care, a children’s home and supported accommodation. Where a package includes regulated personal care, ask the team which registered service will provide it. The Colchester homecare service’s CQC rating must not be assumed to apply to every activity or service.
View the relevant CQC and Ofsted records or read the professional enquiry guidance.

Care Givers have been amazing in terms of helping the boys access the community, going to various places like parks, bowling, Sea Life Centre, Adventure Island, swimming, and got to know the boys really well and built an amazing rapport. The boys really look forward to when they arrive to take them out and bring them home as well. Can’t say enough about Care Givers, so thank you for everything that you do. We really do appreciate it.
